Questions, bugs, feedback

Renyu is developed by one person. I read and answer every email, usually within a few days.

Report a bug

The quickest way is straight from the app: Settings → Feedback. It prepares an email with the exact version and build number already in the subject line. That way I do not have to ask which version you had.

If you write by hand, please give me three details: what you did, what happened and what you expected. You can find the version under Settings → About.

Frequently asked questions

Getting started

Which iPhone do I need?

Renyu requires iOS 18 or later. Renyu is an iPhone app; on an iPad it runs as an iPhone app.

When can I get Renyu?

Renyu is here, as Early Access in the App Store. Get Renyu here.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No. The app needs no account and no sign-in. Only the Friends area creates an account on the Renyu server, after you agree. Renyu works fully offline, including food search and the barcode scan. The database ships with the app.

The app only goes online when you start a feature that needs it: weather in the room, route planning, an explicit “Look up online” for an unknown product, iCloud sync if you turn it on, and the Social area once you agree to it. Friend requests and sharing run there through the Renyu server. The Coach also goes online when you start one of its features. The privacy policy lists each of these places individually.

How do I connect Renyu to Apple Health?

The first time you open a section that needs health data, iOS asks for permission. You decide there for each data type. Later you can change it in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health → Renyu.

For security reasons, no app may switch these permissions itself. Renyu therefore takes you to that place.

When something is wrong

Renyu does not show my Health data.

Almost always the read permission for exactly that data type is missing. iOS does not tell an app that read access was denied. The app simply sees nothing, just as with an empty data set.

Check the permissions under Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Renyu. If the value is missing there too, it is not yet in Apple Health. Then the only way is to record it there or to connect the device that provides it.

How do I start the explanations again?

In Settings there are two separate switches for this: Replay the tour shows the basic principle of the app once more, and Reset tab explanations makes the introductions of the individual tabs start again the next time you open them.

Your data

How do I delete all my data?

In the app under Settings → Data → “Start Over or Delete”. No copy of your entries sits on the Renyu server, only what you switch on for friends with your consent, so for everything that exists only on your device, that deletion is final. Nothing can be restored afterwards. If iCloud sync is on, the data also disappears from your iCloud and from your other devices.

If you delete the app instead, the data on this device goes with it as well.

Can I use Renyu on several devices?

Yes, with iCloud sync. It is off at first; you turn it on under Settings → Data → Privacy. Renyu then stores a copy of your entries in your private iCloud, and all your devices with the same Apple Account show the same. There is no Renyu server involved.

Nutrition, training, fasting, meditation, your cycle, your logbook and values from Apple Health stay on the device where you enter them. Each device reads Apple Health with its own permission. What exactly is synced is set out in the privacy policy.

Can I reset single areas instead of everything?

Yes. Under Settings → Data → “Start Over or Delete” you can reset individual items, such as streaks, workouts or ranks. The rest stays as it is.

Where does my data go when I share something with friends?

With your consent, everything you share with a friend goes through the Renyu server. Without your consent you cannot connect with friends. The rest of Renyu keeps working as usual. You switch on each value individually, for one specific person. Nothing is preselected, and a value you switch off is deleted from the shared data set. Your friend code is not in your private iCloud. It sits with your display name, drawn avatar and profile decoration in a directory entry that anyone with a Renyu account and your friend code can read, so that people can find you by the code. You can delete this entry at any time. The privacy policy describes it field by field.

Can I get the food database?

Yes. It is free to download at renyu.info/daten, with the license text and checksums. The data is under the Open Database License, which requires this.

Price and devices

What does Renyu cost?

Renyu is available for free and as Renyu Pro. Free is everything you do every day: habits, goals with weekly goals, tasks and calendar including Apple Calendar, nutrition, training and health, logbook, journal and Vision Board, Social with friends and your avatar, plus list and tile view and a tab bar you arrange yourself. Renyu Pro helps you understand and shape it, for example with history older than 7 days, insights such as patterns and trends in the logbook, nutrition goals that adapt, your own nutrition, training and cardio plans, your own journal templates, more animations, colors and app icons, and special clothing for your avatar.

Renyu Pro is available as a subscription. During Early Access until 31 December 2026, Pro is also available as a one-time purchase, Pro for Life. Renyu Max is Pro with the Coach: it logs meals from a photo or a sentence, drafts plans and suggests alternatives to your nutrient sources. If you have Pro for Life, you can add the Coach separately. There are no ads. Billing goes through your Apple Account. The App Store shows the prices.

What does “Pro for Life” mean?

Pro for Life is the founder offer during Early Access until 31 December 2026: pay once, get Renyu Pro for good, with everything Pro gains later. There is no renewal. Renyu Max with the Coach is not included. If you have Pro for Life, you can add the Coach separately. The purchase applies to your Apple Account and is not shared through Family Sharing.

What is Renyu Max?

Renyu Max is Pro with the Coach: it logs meals from a photo or a sentence, drafts plans and suggests alternatives to your nutrient sources. The Coach only works when you start one of these features and have agreed beforehand. Renyu then sends what you share through a small service to the AI model. The service does not store it, except a suggestion you report (Android).

How do I cancel a subscription?

Cancelling goes through Apple, not through Renyu. On your iPhone, open the iOS Settings app, tap your name → Subscriptions, choose the subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. If you have a trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. A subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it expires. Billing goes through your Apple Account; the App Store shows the price and period before you buy. Apple’s standard terms of use and our privacy policy apply.

The founder offer Pro for Life is not a subscription. It never renews, and there is nothing to cancel. A subscription you still have alongside it keeps running until you cancel it.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds go through Apple, because Apple handles the purchase and the payment. Open reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in. Choose I’d like to → Request a refund, then a reason, the Renyu purchase and Submit.

Expect 24 to 48 hours until Apple replies. Apple decides on this request. Your statutory right of withdrawal and your rights in case of defects are not affected.

My purchase is gone. How do I restore it?

In the app. In Renyu, open Settings → Profile → Renyu Pro and tap Restore Purchases. Renyu then asks the App Store for the purchases on your Apple Account.

Sign in with the Apple Account you bought with. If it then says “No purchase is on file for this Apple Account yet.”, the App Store finds no active purchase there. You may have bought with a different Apple Account, or a subscription has expired. If you get stuck, write to support@renyu.info.

Is there an Apple Watch app?

Yes. Renyu has an app for Apple Watch, including a watch face display. Heart rate, workouts, sleep and activity also reach Renyu through Apple Health.

Privacy requests

Your entries are on your device. Only what you switch on for friends with your consent sits on the Renyu server. You exercise your rights of access, rectification and erasure directly in the app. I am happy to answer questions about this at support@renyu.info. The details are in the privacy policy.
